What is the future of textile industry in India?

From Quora —
Amit Yadav

After agriculture, textile is the second largest employment generator in India. However, the industry is decentralized (and hence unable to bear the international competition esp. from Bangladesh and Vietnam).

Positive :

  • it is labour-intensive industry (and India has availability of skilled labour for textiles and that too at low-cost)
  • Demand for textiles is increasing at the domestic as well as global level
  • dominated by women workers (70%). So, development in the textile industry = women empowerment
  • availability of input — cotton, silk, etc.

Negative :

  • stiff competition from other emerging players in textile industry globally
  • capital-intensive and the need of overhauling the old machinery and adopting new technology
  • marketing and brand building

Metallic Yarn Types

Metallic Yarns are created with using metals or metallic fibers with other fibers.

There are two manufacturing process –

Metalizing Method – In this method metal is heated to vaporized and made deposited on polyester films.

Yarns created using this method is usually more durable, Thinner and Flexible.

Laminating Method – More common method, here mostly aluminium is sealed between two layers of Polyester.

Common material sources are – Aluminium, Gold, Copper and Silver.

Spun yarn vs Filament yarn

Spun yarn vs Filament yarn – know the difference!

There are two types of Yarns, Spn yarn and Filament yarn. Here are the differences between them –

Spun Yarn

Two or more fibers are consolidated by twisting to get a solid strong yarn, the procedure is called spinning. Thus these Yarns are called Spun Yarn. Spun yarn might be comprised of a single type of fiber or it might be made twisting various strands together. Mixed yarn is a consequence of turning together of various types of strands, for example, cotton polyester or fleece acrylic yarn. Yarn could likewise be 2 handle or even 3 employ contingent on the quantity of yarns curved together.

Filament yarn

There are fundamentally two kinds of fibers that are utilized to make yarn; in particular, fiber and staple filaments. The strands that are so long, and that they can work themselves as yarn are called fiber filaments. As they don’t need twisting to be changed over into yarn, they are also called filament yarn. The greater part of the strands that are named as fiber are artificial in research facilities. Nylon and polyester are two such strands that are long and solid to be utilized as yarn for making textures. This yarn is intended for sewing, and however it is made by turning of filaments, you feel that it is a solitary fiber. This happens in light of the fact that wax is utilized to hold the staple filaments together on account of a string.
